Vioxx : Vioxx is an anti-inflammatory primarily used for the treatment of arthritis. On September 30, 2004 the drug manufacturing company Merck & Co. voluntarily took Vioxx off of the market worldwide. This withdrawal was a result of a research study done by Merck & Co. that found that people taking Vioxx for longer than 18 months had an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
